Research Complex

The various geological specimens that the researchers have accumulated as a result of the ongoing research projects since the start of the geological survey in 1918 have been first opened to the public through the Geological Specimen Room established in 1992 and the international scientific event (1993 Daejeon EXPO).

Since then, the need to build up a more systematic and comprehensive professional museum has been recognized, and the museum has been opened on November 9, 2001, with a capacity of about 2,500㎡ (total floor space).

The Geological Museum contributes to geological science outreach programs by exhibiting geological specimens such as minerals, rocks, and fossils, screening of movies, lectures, or experiential learning. In addition, we are establishing a specimen and drilling core archiving system for experts by operating the Sample Repository.
